BT’s Smokehouse

BT’s Smokehouse Being from the Springfield area, it is a rarity for me to drive to Sturbridge, but when I got the opportunity to try out BT’s Smokehouse, there was no question about it. A. I was being a big baby, and the drive wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Hop on the Pike, throw on Pandora, sing a few songs at the top of my lungs, and next thing I know.. I’m pulling into BT’s, So that “It’s a long drive” excuse flew right out the window along with my bad singin. B. How can anyone say “NO” to a BYOB smokehouse with mouth-watering brisket that has been cooking for over 26 hours and gumbo that has recently been recognized for it’s award winning qualities??
I got there right as they opened up for lunch. From the time they opened, there was already a line out the door. While I gazed over the menu wondering what would tantalize my taste buds, I realized there wasn’t really anything on there that I didn’t like. This was definitely a place I will be returning to. Brian, the owner could clearly see my need to have it all. I luckily got to sample a little of everything. The brisket, the ribs, the pulled pork- any kind of tasty meat that was on the menu, I had the pleasure of sinking my teeth into. Now it wouldn’t be classic barbecue without the typical tastes that accompany smoked meats–creamy mac & cheese, dirty rice, gumbo, this really amazing secret recipe for tangy coleslaw with a vinegar base instead of the classic mayo recipe and of course, don’t forget about the cornbread! If you have no desire to ravage a piece of meat right off the bone, do not fret, there is certainly a specialty sandwich for you to enjoy. Maybe the brisket Reuben (which is shown in the video made of Succulent Brisket, Homemade Slaw, Swiss Cheese, all on a Toasted Honey Wheat Brown Bread, with Pickled Rye Sauce), the Catfish Po’ Boy (Blackened Catfish Fillet on Grilled Baguette with Lettuce Tomato and Creole Remulade)  or make your own with your choice of meat on a fresh baked roll.with toppings.. all grilled to perfection, topped with gooey cheese. Appetizers like Andouille Dog Bites, Hand Cut Fries, Beer Battered Onion Rings (made with Pabst Blue Ribbon, oh ya!) and classic hush puppies make up the menu and there are also specials that rotate on a a regular basis.
BT’s has made getting the delectable meats you want as simple as it gets. They just launched a partnership with Chownow so you can order directly from the interwebs or even right from your smartphone. Not too shabby if I do say so. Now you can have barbecue anytime you want. Save yourself some time during the work day and order ahead of time to get in and out quickly. They will make sure if you ordered online that you are taken care of quickly. But if you do have more time to sit down and enjoy your meal, grab a seat at the diner style bar seating, bring a pint of your favorite draft and watch the cooks do there thing.
I love the atmosphere of this joint, the smells of slow-cooked meats fill the air, the fast hustle and bustle of the staff and the smile that this food brings to all it’s patrons faces.
It’s no surprise that BT’s was voted the Top 10 Best Barbecue in New England by the Boston Globe. “Like” them on Facebook, check out where they’ll be next and go enjoy some of the best local barbecue New England has to offer.

Robyn, as usual another great review! I too LOVE BT smoke house, people don’t realize Sturbridge is centrally located and easy access from all of MA, CT even RI with the Mass Pike, Rt. 84, Rt 20 and 131 makes for an easy drive to support all Sturbridge shops! Brian does a phenomenal job at BT’s – Make it a day in Sturbridge, don’t miss out and GO!
