Casa de Nana

Has dinner become too mundane? Spice it up a little, at Casa de Nana! This familiar staple in Springfield, MA is the longest running restaurant on Boston Rd, rockin’ the Mexican cuisine scene since 1968.

Although it took me until 2015 to indulge in their fare, I could taste flavors that stood the test of time. I started my sampling with the sizzling steak fajitas, and these babies were SIZZZLIN’! Warm fajitas with all the fixings topped off with a dollop of sour cream and guacamole. A great dish to share or keep all to yourself.

The blackened chicken burrito was next on the list, and served with fresh steamed veggies. The cheese was gooey and melted to perfection as you can see for yourself. This is one of the most popular dishes served at Casa and I can totally see why!

Don’t think I forgot about what really brings me to Mexican restaurants! The MARGARITAS, of course! I certainly love me some tequila ANDDD these margaritas are made fresh to order, not like chain restaurants that pre-make their mixes. The Señor Espolón Reposado Margarita is the house classic- it’s made with a house made mix, grand marnier and Espolón tequila, a very tasty choice indeed.

For those with a sweet tooth (like myself), the Berry Cabo Wabo Margarita will certainly satisfy your quench. It is made with cabo silver, cabo wabo blanco tequila, chambord, lemon juice and the housemade marg mix. Cheers!

Even though this next one isn’t a margarita, it will surely illuminate your taste buds in ways you didn’t think a Mexican restaurant could! This next drink could compete against the likes of Friendly’s and other frappes; drumroll please… the Mexican Mudslide! Was I excited for this one, or what! Vodka, chocolate liquor, Irish cream, vanilla, all blended together in one appetizing ice cold glass drizzled with chocolate syrup. Can I get a “¡Muy delicioso!”

As if that weren’t enough, out came a fried ice cream with a bowl made of sweet cinnamon sugar coated fried tortilla, loaded with vanilla ice cream, topped off with gooey fudge, a generous helping of whipped cream and a cherry! My evening at Casa de Nana was filled with all kinds of unpredictable dishes as well as the classics. Ah the joys in life!

I LOVE CASA DE NANA’s!!!!!!! I have been going there since 1990 when my Hasbro friends had a fair well for a friend party there, later bringing my family and it was the place to go for BNI meetings as well meeting other clients there. A great atmosphere, friendly employees but most of all GREAT food and more than you can eat in a sitting! I had been out to LA for Mexican food and on the east coast Casa De Nana’s was the closest to authentic Mexican food around! Keep up the great work Casa’s! Don’t think twice about going here for a dinner, a business meeting or bring a group – you won’t be disappointed!
