West Springfield is the home to a variety of restaurants but there is only one quite like this. If you have been to Crepes Tea House and sunken your teeth into one of their freshly-made crepes, you know exactly what I am talking about! Recently though, I’ve discovered that not only can you get made-to-order crepes and loose-leaf tea, there is in an ENTIRE menu of homemade delicacies!
I’ve always been a big fan of Crepes Tea House, but I usually stayed within the realm of crepes, because well, lets be real, they are a Creperie. Little did I realize that there menu was quite vast and filled with foods that you can’t get prepared in your everyday restaurant. From the khachapuri to a variety of differently prepared vareniki, Crepes Tea House goes the extra step and hand-makes all the products they offer to you from their kitchen.
I enjoyed the Siberian Pelmini which are pre-marinated mini dumplings with beef, onions and mushrooms as well as the mussels with bacon, spinach, blue cheese, lemon and white wine and I can’t wait to order those two dishes again. The mussels were large in size and the toppings truly made the dish. I tried a variety of vareniki, and for those unfamiliar with that term, they are kind of like pierogies, and their fillings include either farm cheese (made in-house), mashed potatoes or cabbage and bacon, they even have a dessert version filled with cherries and topped with fresh fruit and crème!
Glazing over through the menu, my eyes stopped upon the Lithuanian Borsch that is only available during the summer season. Asking Art the owner about it, he told me they prepare it in their kitchens and that it takes over 7 hours to make. Wow. Everything on their menu is made-to-order, so that also means that most items on the menu can be customized to your liking. Not frozen or premade like your typical chain restaurant. Expect a fresh-cooked meal just like you get at home.
Even the beverages have a homemade touch. Crepes Tea House makes all their own Kvass, which is a beverage derived from rye bread. It takes a full week to make a batch of it and the taste resembles a cider. What a treat that was. If you have more of a sweet-tooth, order up a glass of their Mors, a powershot of fresh fruit flavors such as the strawberry or cranberry-flavored drink with a slight carbonation. Not only is that a delicious decision but also an incredibly healthy one, as it’s an all-natural alternative to carbonated, sugary, soda beverages.
Everything made here is done so with you in mind. The foods are healthy and made fresh, and some dishes are even steamed to retain higher nutritional value. Know that you are doing a great wonder to your body when you eat at Crepes Tea House.
You are nourishing yourself internally with the foods you eat there but don’t forget you can also enjoying a cup of loose-leaf tea in over 100 varieties. The great part is if you like it that much, you can order your own leaves to take home! Take home your favorite loose leaf tea from Crepes Tea House and make it whenever you want, and with so many choices, you can have a different tea each week for over 2 years! WHOA!
